About Bob

Bob Godfrey is a native of Chicago and grew up in north Evanston, Illinois. He attended Evanston Township High School, where he lettered in swimming and was a member of swim teams that won multiple suburban and state championships. Bob’s father was a stockbroker and his mother a housewife and local champion golfer. He has one sister, a retired retailer.

Bob continued his education at Beloit College and, having graduated with a B.A. degree in English, began a successful 13-year career with Allstate Insurance Company, most recently serving as Director of Training and Development. He was then recruited to Heidrick & Struggles, an elite executive search firm. While there, Bob completed an MM degree in business from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University. He subsequently founded Robert G. Godfrey Associates, Ltd., a boutique executive search firm in which he remains active. He has over 30 years’ experience as an executive search consultant, primarily specializing in the education industry. Intermittent corporate HR management assignments were with Sargent-Welch Scientific Company and Millward Brown.

Bob’s community activities include serving as vice chairman and board member of Montgomery Place, a continuing care retirement community in Hyde Park; Stephen Minister; senior warden, nominating committee chair, endowment committee member, Brotherhood of St. Andrew member, an acolyte at All Saints’ Episcopal Church; and Editor-in-Chief of the Review, a publication of HASP (Hope Academy of Senior Professionals). Bob’s interests include reading, running, philately, and photography.

A member of the Rotary Club of Saugatuck-Douglas since its beginning, Bob has fulfilled the leadership roles of the membership committee chair and is currently sergeant-at-arms.

Bob and his wife, Laura, a consultant with BRG in Chicago, moved to Saugatuck in 2009. Bob has three adult children from a prior marriage and six grandchildren ranging in age from 1 to 20, all residing in the Chicago area. Laura and Bob enjoy visiting family and friends, traveling, and raising Sampson, a beautiful golden lab rescue dog.
